About Us

Roseville Community Preschool began over sixty years ago when a group of women formed a Mother’s Playgroup utilizing the original office of the Placer County Fairgrounds. What started as an empty shell of a building and a small play yard, over the years sprouted into a vibrant early childhood center.

Over the years, RCP gained international recognition as a model preschool through their work guided by our original Teacher and Director, Bev Bos. Bev was active in the school until her death in 2016. Though deeply missed, we are proud to carry on her legacy and ensure that as many children as we can reach have the ability to truly play.

It is our firm belief that the role of the adults is to establish the play environment and provide guidance, understanding that young children learn best though self-directed, uninterrupted play.

Learning involves all of the senses.

Children need to move, to touch, to hold, to take things apart, to rearrange, experiment, deconstruct, reconstruct, imagine, talk out loud, and to play – which is “the single most significant factor in determining our success and happiness.” (Stuart Brown)

Philosophy

Our philosophy is rooted in play-based, child-directed, parent participation approach to education that acknowledges that children are naturally motivated by their own desire to make sense of the world and children learn best through self-guided, active involvement in the world (playing).

RCP is able to provide unique opportunities for children's physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development.
Exploration: Children are able to explore in a judgement free environment, with open-ended opportunities. Surrounding adults provide the support they need to follow their curiosities and figure things out for themselves.
Self-discovery: Allowing children their own "aha" moment. Children are allowed to be truly present in an uninterrupted journey.
Community: All parents are required to participate weekly within the school, monthly at parent meetings and encouraged to participate in community fundraising and family events.  This provides a sense of inclusivity and responsibility towards the success of your fellow parents and children.
Hands-On experience:  "Experience is not the best teacher, it is the only teacher." Bev Bos

Parent Participation

Parent Participation Requirements

- Work in your child's class (1) designated day each week

- Attend our mandatory Orientation(s) at the beginning of the school year

- Attend our required monthly parent meeting (typically the 2nd Wednesday of the month)

- Volunteer hours outside of class time

- Fundraising

- Housekeeping (cleaning) 2-3 times per school year

Parent Education

The staff supports and prepares the parents through our parent/family education nights - Orientation, monthly Parent Meetings, and one-on-one conversations throughout the year. We are committed to the parent participation model as we find it the most valuable way to connect with families while honoring the developmental needs of young children. We believe participation builds community. It models to the children the importance of working together and it instills in them the sense of “Belonging.”

Community

A Community exists when there is:

* A shared sense of purpose

* Agreement on Core Values

* Participation

* Communication

* Commitment

* Shared Responsibility

* Collaboration

As a parent participation preschool, our families also serve in other capacities to help our school community function successfully.

These requirements are outlined more thoroughly in the enrollment process as well as in the Parent Handbook.
